Hankley Common Golf Club
Hankley Common Golf Club was first opened for play over nine holes in 1897 (see history ). In 1922 James Braid advised on the addition of a further nine holes. Bobby Locke described the course as the closest resemblance to a seaside links and the famous course architect, Charles Lawrie, once described the course as " one of the best inland layouts in Britain ".
The 7th hole is looked upon as being one of the finest par 3s in the country and the magnificent 18th a superb but challenging finishing hole.
The course and surrounding area are classified as a ‘ Site of Special Scientific Interest ' which includes a number of indigenous trees such as Rowan, Oak and Silver Birch, together with the invading Scots Pine. The course is also home to many birds and animals, including the rare Dartford Warbler, Woodlark, Night Jar, Adder, Deer, Badger and the Sand Lizard.

LOCAL RULES
1. ROADS, PATHS AND TRACKS
All roads, paths and tracks are integral parts of the course and
the ball must be played as it lies or declared unplayable (Rule 28)
2. OUT OF BOUNDS (Rule 27-1)
On the right of the 4th hole on or beyond a line formed by the
White marker posts and within the fenced area surrounding the
Pond behind the 17th green.
3. STONES IN BUNKERS
Stones in bunkers are deemed movable obstructions - Rule 24-1
applies.
4. FIXED SPRINKLER HEADS
All fixed sprinkler heads are immovable obstructions. Relief may
be obtained under Rule 24-2. In addition, if a ball lies off the putting
green but not in a hazard and an immovable obstruction on or
within two club-lengths of the putting green and within two club-
lengths of the ball intervenes on the line of play between the ball
and the hole, the player may take relief.
5. STAKED TREES
Staked trees are considered to be immovable obstructions and
relief must be taken in accordance with Rule 24-2b.
ETIQUETTE
1. BUNKER RAKES
After use bunker rakes are to be placed totally outside of the bunker on the T marked area on the ground.
2. TROLLEYS AND BUGGIES
Trolleys and buggies are to be kept out of all heather and are not
to be taken between greenside bunkers and the adjacent green.
3. PITCH MARKS
Please repair your pitch mark on the Green
4. MEASUREMENTS
On sprinkler heads in Yards - To the Centre of the Green.
HEALTH AND SAFETY - PRIORITY ON THE COURSE
Green Staff and the public on paths, have priority on the course.
The ball must not be played when they are in range.
